Once you unlock crafting, you'll be able to also craft large schematic posters for each of the items, which look pretty sweet in your workbench area (see images.) All mods can be switched between the goggles and the eyepiece.
The base goggles give +1 perception, and any combination of mods can be added to customize them for your play style or appearance.
